Gallery 'N' Gifts is calling all young artists to participate in the 21st annual All Tehachapi Youth Art Contest, sponsored by the Tehachapi Valley Arts Association. This contest spotlights the creative efforts of talented youth within the greater Tehachapi area communities.

TVAA will accept entries to the contest March 20 through 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Gallery 'N Gifts daily. All Tehachapi students in grades kindergarten through 12th are encouraged to enter. All entrants are required to be from the Tehachapi area or attend a school with the Tehachapi Unified School District.

The All Tehachapi Youth Art Contest is staffed and funded by volunteers willing to give their time and money to make this contest a success. Qualified judges are brought in to determine those works worthy of special recognition.

First-, second- and third-place ribbons are given for outstanding works as well as honorable mention awards in four categories: kindergarten through 2nd grade; 3rd through 6th; 7th and 8th; and 9th through 12th. In addition, two “Best of Show” awards are given to honor the best work by a high school student and the other for best work by an elementary level student. These two recipients will each be honored by a ribbon and a monetary award.

Original entries created within the last 12 months will be accepted to the contest. Flat work must not exceed 36 inches by 36 inches, including frame. Photography entries must be a minimum of 8 inches by 10 inches. Flat work and photography entries need not be framed; however, they must be matted or mounted.

Sculpture entries must not exceed 50 pounds, and no unfired clay pieces will be accepted. Artist must supply a suitable stand for all large sculptures.

A reception will be held in honor all all exhibitors on Saturday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Gallery N’ Gifts, 100 W. Tehachapi Blvd. All entries will be displayed throughout April.
