Gary Gomes of Tehachapi became an Eagle Scout on Jan. 24 after building a bench on the Pacific Crest Trail. Gomes built the bench for hikers to enjoy and rest.

Gomes started scouting as a Cub Scout, and said he really enjoyed it. He continued to become a Webelos Scout and earned his Arrow of Light. He joined the Boy Scouts Of America and worked his way up through the ranks and held different positions and responsibilities.

Gomes is also a member of the Order of The Arrow. The OA is most commonly known as the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America.
