International visitors come to the Tehachapi Municipal Airport from Hamburg, Germany, bringing with them their 1955 French Broussard ex-military aircraft.

The airport is unique in that you can walk three short blocks to be in the middle of downtown Tehachapi. This convenience is attractive to many visitors, both domestic and international.

German pilots Philipp Schroeder and Roland Fischer keep their plane in Hollister, Calif., while both pilots are based in Germany. Schroeder and Fischer are professional pilots who fly the Airbus A380, with the German Airline Lufthansa, and are currently on a spring vacation.

The Broussard was met by longtime pilot and hangar owner Mike Lerner, who is also the vice president of the Tehachapi Airport Hangar Owners Association. Lerner is a Vietnam veteran and said he remembered this type of aircraft, along with the DeHavilland Beaver, from when he was in the war. The aircraft was parked at the fixed base operator location owned by Ken and Della Hetge for some light cleaning service.
