Tehachapi senior citizens can look forward to a resource fair which promises to feature a diverse assortment of informational participants come this September.
The Tehachapi Senior Fair will be held at The Woods Pavilion, located at 323 W. F St., on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature information regarding healthcare, hospice, finances, hobbies, volunteer opportunities, travel and more. It will be offered free to the public.
"I was thinking about it a couple of years ago, and I found there was no event that was specifically for seniors and their families," said event chairman Sally Periman of Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. "We're wanting to step up to the plate and host such an event at the Woods Pavilion."
Both participants and sponsors are currently being sought to partner in the Senior Fair.
Said Periman, "We are seeking businesses and other non-profits that would like to participate in this endeavor."
Periman said she is hoping to turn the Senior Fair into an annual event. Some of the nonprofit organizations that have been invited to participate are social clubs, like the Rotarians, Kiwanis and Lions Club. In addition, Periman said the fair will feature information booths on financial planning and reverse mortgage.
Said Periman, "We hope to feature travel agencies, because seniors like to travel and can because they have time. We are basically looking for any nonprofit organization or other business that continue to support local seniors."
Participant booths measuring 10 feet by 10 feet are available for reservation for $25, and will include a six-foot table and two chairs.
In addition, sponsorships are available at the following levels: Bronze — $250; Silver — $500; Gold — $1,000; and Platinum — $2,500.
Periman said a drawing will be held for a four-night cruise for two to Ensenada, Mexico, and Catalina Island. Individuals interested in donating other drawing items are also encouraged to do so.
