Winners of the 5th Annual Hot Chocolate Turkey Trot hold up the plump turkeys they won in the annual 5k event in 2018.

The Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District will kick off the holiday season with two special events: the annual Hot Chocolate Turkey Trot 5k run and Christmas Bazaar.

The Christmas Bazaar will kick off the weekend starting Friday, Nov. 22, and continue through Saturday, Nov. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. The bazaar will be held at the Aspen Builders Inc. Activity Center located at 410 W. D St. Admission and parking will be free.

This year's event will feature numerous vendors with items including holiday decorations, women's clothing and jewelry, beauty products, food gifts, home decor, children's toys and clothing and more.

"Come out to our Christmas Bazaar and support your local businesses and buy a special gift for someone in your life," said Ashley Krempien, recreation coordinator for TVRPD.

Next, the 6th Annual Hot Chocolate Turkey Trot will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Brite Lake, 22902 Banducci Road. Registration will begin at 8 a.m.

According to Krempien, both events help TVRPD generate much-needed funds.

"Basically, it helps us buy everything we need for our youth programs," Krempien said.

The race will be a family fun run and not officially timed. Following the race, all participants will receive finishers medals and mugs of steaming hot chocolate. Individuals 21 or older can also chose to add a shot of Bailey's to their drink.

"There is a swag bag for participants, and it has some goodies in it," said Krempien.

AltaOne Federal Credit Union will once again sponsor the popular race.

The race will be open to all ages; however, the fee is the same for everyone.

According to Krempien, all proceeds from the event will help fund TVRPD's youth sports events.

The top three finishers for both men and women will receive the coveted prized turkeys courtesy of Albertsons.

Register online at tvrpd.org or in person at the office location, 490 W. D St., through Nov. 15. Registration fee is $40 plus a $5 parking fee. Same-day participants are not guaranteed a mug or medal.
