"The Sunshine Boys" is the comic highlight of the season in Tehachapi Community Theatre's lively production now playing at the Beekay Theatre.

The "boys" in question are the vaudeville team of Al Lewis and Willie Clark. When asked to revive their famous "Doctor" sketch one last time for a TV special, the boys are faced with working out old resentments and grudges. These are scenes as only Neil Simon can write them, converting ire to pure comic gold in sparkling, laugh-provoking dialog.

In the leads are Doug Jockinsen as Al, and Gary Mazzola as Willie. The frustrated referee in the battle of wits is Willie's nephew Ben, played by Spencer Frederick. The show plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 10, 11, 17 and 18. Matinees are Sunday, Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m.

Director Ruthanne Jennings has marshaled a fine supporting cast with Mike Curtis as a helpless stage hand trying to clean up the wreckage, David Shacklock as the TV director who has a meltdown, Heather Ringle as the buxom sketch nurse and Monica Nadon as a tart-tongued Registered Nurse saddled with caring for Willie. George Jennings makes his stage debut as the much abused patient in the doctor sketch.

Tickets are available at The Apple Shed, Tehachapi Furniture and Johnny's Take n' Bake Pizza. Tickets are also online atwww.tctonstage.com.

The production is dedicated to the memory of Royce Cox, a long time TCT favorite as actor and director. Mr. Cox passed away during opening week of the play following a long illness.

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
