The Tehachapi Lions Club honored three local girls as "students of the month" for January.

Baylee Garland was selected as student of the month for Tehachapi High. As a junior, Baylee is an outstanding student and possesses excellent organizational skills such as finishing tasks long before they are due.

She has lettered in golf and softball and her favorite subject is U.S. history. Her future plans include majoring in business at Cal State Northridge.

Cayle Armienta was selected for the award at Monroe High because of her "can do" attitude.

Besides being self-motivated, Cayle has a drive to succeed. She enjoys hanging out with friends, playing volleyball and dancing.

Upon graduation she plans to move to Long Beach for college and eventually become a journalist for a fashion magazine.

Cathy Meza was chosen as the student of the month at Jacobsen Middle School. Besides being a hard worker, Cathy is an excellent example of all of the "Pillars of Character Counts" traits.

She is a very conscientious individual and always willing to help other students.

Congratulations to these superb students attending our local public schools.

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
