Tehachapi writers swept the top awards at 2012 Playwright's Festival at the Beekay Theatre. Tehachapi Community Theatre's fourth Festival featured nine plays, with five from local writers.

"The first year of the festival, only one local writer made it into the finals, so this is quite a change," said Executive Producer Karl Schuck.

"It's thrilling for locals to sweep the awards in competition with Los Angeles playwrights."

The Golden Quill Award went to Tanis Galik for her comedy, "Blind Date Aftermath," directed by Emily Stults-Estrella and featuring actors Rebecca Wilson and Rick Gould.

Silver Award went to Ralph Macalulso for "LOL" directed by Cody Steinbach, with Monica Nadon, Ken Chugg, Tina Forde, Spencer Frederick and Leslie Reynolds-Nuckolls. Macaluso took the Gold in 2010's contest. Bronze Quill went to first-time writer SilentWolf for "Another Mother's Day," directed by Brian Terpstra and including Daniela Peregrina, Emily Stults-Estrella, Ali Witlach, Lanie Ringle, Rebecca Wilson and Rick Gould.

Awards were voted on by audience members at each performance, tallied by producer Ken Chugg. The final matinee was followed by the awards ceremony and a reception.

Chugg urged local writers to get busy, as submissions for the 2013 Festival will begin in February. More information at www.tctonstage.com.
