Visit Tomo Kahni State Historic Park as few others have: as the sun sets and the full moon rises. Walk the paths where the Kawaiisu lived and enjoy the beauty of the village site nestled in the mountains of Sand Canyon. Meet at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Tehachapi Museum, 310 S. Green St., and then carpool to the site for a twilight look at the ancient village site.
Tomo Kahni volunteers will conduct the guided tour.
The historic park can only be visited on guided tours. Regular daytime tours run this fall from Sept. 14 to Nov. 16, Saturdays only. Regular tours meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Tehachapi Museum for an orientation to the Kawaiisu culture and then carpool to the park site.
The special twilight tour is limited to 20 guests, so reservations are mandatory and the cost is $20 per person. Reservations can be made at the Tehachapi Museum on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon until 4 p.m., or by calling the museum at 822-8152 and leaving a message. No guests under 12 please.
For reservations for a regular tour, call California State Parks at 661-946-6092. The museum does not handle the booking of regular tours, so please do not leave messages on the museum phone line.
