"Hot Dog Up" in Tehachapi for great hometown July 4 celebration

Tehachapi has big plans for a full day of fun including a children's parade, "Hot Dog Festival" in Central Park, music, bullriding and fireworks on Wednesday, July 4.

Tehachapi’s All American Fourth of July Hot Dog Festival celebration can keep one busy from dawn to dusk. The City of Tehachapi, Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District and various organizations have put together a day filled with fun, music and patriotic enthusiasm you won’t want to miss.

Start day with Bun Run
Enjoy a good morning run? Join the 5-K Bun Run at Monroe High School at 126 S. Snyder. Registration is $30 and registration begins at 7 a.m. T-shirt, water and medallions are included in the price. The run begins at 8 a.m. and awards will be announced at Central Park, following the race. Categories are offered for all ages from 12 and up.

Pancake breakfast & music
The Warriors “Dog Chow” Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Warriors Booster Club will be available from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $5 each. Breakfast served at Central Park and the “Old Time Fiddlers Association” will be performing at Central Park from 8 to 10 a.m. also. Come join the good food and pleasant music.

Children’s Parade
Register your little ones for the Children’s Parade at 10 a.m. at Monroe High School at 126 S. Snyder. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the school and ends up at Central Park; awards will be presented at noon at Central Park.

Music being the mainstay for the day “Geezers On The Loose” will perform from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Central Park. Food booths, the Hero’s Wall of Valor, petting zoo, crafts, and children’s games will be at Central Park with something for everyone.

Also, the Tehachapi Train Depot, Tehachapi Museum, and Errea House will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing residents and visitors with a good opportunity to learn more about Tehachapi’s history. The Tehachapi Museum will be celebrating its 39th anniversary on July 4.

Noon events
Mayor Ed Grimes’ “Welcome” address, the Children’s Parade and 5K Bun Run awards presentations will be held at Central Park at noon with the flag raising ceremony by the Civil Air Patrol taking place at 12:05 p.m. at Central Park.

‘Warrior Park’ dedication
Mayor Grimes will be at Tehachapi’s newest park for its dedication as “Warrior Park” at 1 p.m. The park is located on Classico Drive East in the Alta Estates subdivision.

More music
More great music, by “Tehachapi Pops Orchestra” performs at Central Park, conducted Randy Bennett, from 2 to 4 p.m. and “Blue Mustard” will performs from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Coy Burnett Football Stadium, followed by the Tehachapi Symphony and Symphonic Chorus from 7 to 9 p.m., Bring a picnic basket for an old-fashioned 4th of July cerebration with marches, patriotic songs and more.

Bull riding
And Tehachapi will “Rodeo Up” on July 4 with the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association’s “Bad Bulls” professional bull riding show will be at the rodeo grounds from 5 to 9 p.m.

Rounding out a great 4th of July at 9 p.m. is the fireworks spectacular, an aerial show. Fireworks can be heard and viewed from Coy Burnett Stadium, the rodeo grounds, and other locations in town.
