Have a Heart Humane Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit, is gearing up for its first "Gone to the Dogs" 5K run to be Saturday, Nov. 16, at Monroe High School, 126 S. Snyder St. This easy, popular run is for adults, kids and well-behaved dogs on a leash.
The run features medals with special ribbons for the top three runners in eight age categories, refreshments, final times for each runner, the opportunity to run with your canine best friend, a "paws up" from Oscar de la Hoya, our spokesdog, when you cross the finish line and most of all -- the satisfaction of knowing that your registration fee will benefit homeless or sick/injured dogs and cats.
Have a Heart Humane Society's goal is to make Tehachapi the first no-kill community in Kern County. Early this year, we began raising funds through private donations and grants to put on mobile spay/neuter clinics for Tehachapi's low-income pet owners. To date, we have raised $15,000, have altered 120 pets and have funds to alter 120 more during clinics scheduled for October, November and December. Spay and neuter is the only answer to a no-kill status.
If you would like to help sponsor our event we have the following levels: A Lucky Dog $100 plus sponsorship will be recognized in all media as permitted, give you one entry to the race and one t-shirt. A Hot Dog $250 plus sponsorship will give you recognition as an event sponsor, recognition in all media as permitted, your company logo on event t-shirts, two entries to the race and two race T-shirts. A Top Dog $500 plus sponsorship will have special signage recognition at the event, premier recognition in all media as permitted, your company logo with premier placing on event t-shirts, three entries to the race and three race T-shirts. If you can't do a sponsorship or can't run the race, but would still like to help, please make sure we get your check for $20 prior to Oct. 31 and we will order you an event t-shirt in whatever size you specify.
Pre-registration fee is $30 through Oct. 31 and $35 thereafter and from 8 until 8:45 a.m. the day of the event. Runners may also register at Active.com with a credit card (additional $3 fee applies). Pre-registration guarantees a Dri-Fit T-shirt and a keepsake medal. Shirts and medals are not guaranteed to registrants who sign up after Oct. 31. The run begins at 9 a.m.
Entry forms may be picked up and dropped off at Books & Crannies or Radio Shack at 1121 W. Valley Blvd. during normal business hours or may be downloaded at haveahearthumanesociety.org.
