What are Tehachapi residents planning for Valentine's Day?

We took a random poll on the streets and about town, looking to see if there was a local, romantic tradition to uncover. It there is a secret Valentine's tryst in town, we haven't discovered it yet! Here's a sampling of what people shared:

Ermina Tribble, manager at Denny's and happily married for 30 years, loves Valentine's Day. She always gets chocolate and a stuffed bear for her collection. In return, she makes her husband's favorite dinner- chicken cacciatore with rice. "We just like to stay home and spend time with each other on Valentine's Day," she said.

Dave Bryant of Tehachapi Flower Shop said he and his wife will celebrate together at Main Street Tehachapi's Valentine walk, which is being held on Saturday, Feb. 11. Other years, they have a quiet dinner out together.

Terry Spiro, who sells her scented candles out of the flower shop said she and her husband usually go to Bakersfield for dinner.

Going out of town turned out to be a popular option. Natasha Thibeault, 21, has already told her fiance she wants to go away somewhere special for Valentine's. Plus chocolates and flowers, too, she laughs.

"I think all girls love Valentine's Day. Guys, maybe not so much."

Chris Kirk, husband and father of two (with number three on the way) will be treating wife Mandi to a quiet, romantic evening out together- in LA.

"We're going to drive down and go to the Thai restaurant we used to go to when we were dating," he said. Now, that's romantic!

Staying home together, visiting one of your favorite Tehachapi restaurants or trying out a new one, or driving out of Tehachapi for a date night- or celebrating early by attending the Main Street Valentine Wine & Chocolate Tasting event, what are you planning for Valentine's Day?

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
