Tehachapi Mountain Branch of American Association of University Women has a history of promoting Women's History during March. It began many years ago when Carol Coleman suggested the Storytelling group portray women who have made important contributions to society. Since then, presentations have been made to schools and service clubs around town.
This month, women such as Agatha Christie, Rose Burcham, Nelly Bly, Maya Angelou and Jessie Fremont have appeared at schools and service clubs in Tehachapi. The AAUW participants chose a woman who interested them; researched that woman; wrote a script; and became that woman for a performance. Not all of those chosen are well known, but all led interesting lives and made a difference in the world.
AAUW promotes equity and education for women and girls. It meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. For more information, call Susan at 821-6008 or visit aauwtehachapi.org.
