The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking student cadets for an upcoming student-sponsored Basic Course - Peace Officer Standard Training academy. The POST academy is scheduled to start in January 2014. POST classes will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Kern Regional Training Center at 926 Norris Road, Bakersfield.
Applicants must be 20 years of age by the end of the academy (graduation) and must pass an applicant screening process conducted by the Sheriff’s Office, which includes: an entry test, physical agility test, oral interview, and personal history statement.
Applicants must also possess a valid California Driver’s License and high school diploma or GED and cannot have any federal or state felony convictions or any other statutory restrictions to possess or carry a firearm.
Cadets who complete the POST course and graduate will be eligible to apply for lateral entry Deputy Sheriff positions with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office and peace officer positions with other law enforcement agencies within California.
The Kern Regional Training Center is also a veteran’s training site, and cadets who have served in the military may qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill or the Montgomery GI Bill to pay for expenses associated with attending the academy.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 16, 6 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 21, 6 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 22, 6 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 26, 8 a.m.
