HolidayLights at California Living Museum, CALM, is back for its 11th year. This dazzling night time event can be visited each night through Dec. 31, 5:30-9 p.m., except for Christmas day, Dec. 25.
Last year, 57,000 people marveled at two million lights and more than 65 displays. With more added this year, favorites such as the Elephant Herd, Winter Wonderland, Dinosaurs and the California Wildlife display are returning th crowd pleasers.
During HolidayLights, a few animals will be on exhibit and the reptile house will be open for viewing. At the end of your visit, each group, or family, will receive two passes to visit the animals when the zoo is open.
Along with the lights and the animals the "Candy Cane Express" will also be chugging along the railroad tracks. The 40-foot Merry-Go-Round will be returning as well for young and old to ride, and like the train, it is absolutely free. CALM's Gift Store features nature-related merchandise that has something for everyone including holiday items.
Food service will be provided by Teen Challenge and will feature an expanded menu--including those fantastic apple dumplings! However, you are also welcome to bring your own treats and picnic amongst the lights.
The success of this event is made possible through the dedicated work of the HolidayLights committee and the outpouring of volunteer effort from the community. During HolidayLights, 30 volunteers are needed each night, from 5-10 p.m. If you are interested, call Lana Fain at 661-871-1822. If you are interested in volunteering to help with parking, call Jeff Vandernoor at 661-852-6753.
Admission prices are adults-$12; seniors (60+) and youth (13-17 years)-$10; children (3-12 years) $6; children under three are free. CALM members will receive a 50 percent discount.
