The Tehachapi Relay For Life will be held Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13, at Coy Burnett Stadium on Tehachapi Boulevard east of Snyder Avenue. Opening ceremony will kick off the event at 8:30 a.m.
"We have 45 teams signed up so far," said Lynda Frerichs, co-chair, "but it's not too late to start a team."
The event will kick off Saturday at 9 a.m. Each year, Relay For Life raises money with the support of thousands of volunteers for the American Cancer Society to help save more than 400 lives a day. The Relay For Life movement offers an inspiring opportunity to honor cancer survivors, promote how individuals can reduce their cancer risk, and raise money to help end cancer.
"We are hoping to 'Paint the Town Purple' on July 5," said Frerichs. "We will be putting out purple ribbons on Tehachapi Boulevard and Curry Street."
For those unable to attend a Relay For Life event, you can still have a presence by dedicating a luminaria. Personalize your luminary to honor or in memory of a loved one whose life has been touched by cancer. Luminarias will be lit and placed around the track during the Relay event.
A final team captain meeting will be held July 10, at 6 p.m., at Carden School, located at 20419 Brian Way.
