The June 2014 issue of Highlights has published a drawing by 10-year-old Ella Whitney in its "You're the Cover Artist!" section. Ella, the child of Brent and Jennifer Whitney, is a 5th grader at Valley Oaks Charter School. She enjoys all types of art, making movies, and playing soccer. Ella wants to be an art teacher or an animal rescuer when she grows up.

Each month Highlights has a special callout for kids to submit original work about a specific topic. "You're the Cover Artist!" is June's special feature and showcases readers' creations of their own cover of Highlights.

Each year, Highlights readers send the magazine more than 35,000 submissions. The magazine selects work by boys and girls of all ages and from many different places in the world. By showcasing a representative sample of all the work, Highlights hopes to foster children's creativity.

Devoted to "Fun with a Purpose," Highlights for Children, Inc. has helped children become their best selves for generations. Its flagship publication, Highlights magazine, the most recognizable and widely read children's magazine in the nation, printed its one-billionth copy in June 2006.
