The Tehachapi Relay For Life will be held Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13, at Coy Burnett Stadium on Tehachapi Boulevard east of Snyder Avenue.
A total of 45 teams have registered thus far for the two day event. This year, 391 participants have already raised closed to $60k for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.
Top participants in the upcoming event include Jim Thomas, who has raised $6,000, Rita Rivas, raising more than $3,000, and Virginia Staabs, raising more than $2,000.
Top teams this year are Racing for Ta-Ta's, raising over $8,900, Lehigh Lappers, raising $8,860, and Terra-Gen Thunderbolts -- We Strike Cancer!, raising $6,800.
Participants are asked to turn in their money all day long, and not to wait until the end of the night to assist the Accounting Team.
For those who unable to attend a Relay For Life event, you can still have a presence by dedicating a luminaria. Personalize your luminary to honor or in memory of a loved one whose life has been touched by cancer. Luminarias will be lit and placed around the track during the Relay event.
A final Team Captain meeting will be held July 10, at 6 p.m., at Carden School, located at 20419 Brian Way.
A special call is being made to the public for doctors, caregivers and survivors to participate in the White Coat, Caregiver and Survivor Laps.
