More than 4,000 ornaments, 33 trees and a half-mile of garland transform John Bell's home into a winter fairy tale.

And for the third time in the nine years Bell has resided in Golden Hills, he is inviting the public to come out and enjoy his Christmas Village.

Starting in early October, Bell turns his living room, dining room and kitchen into one huge Christmas display.

Bell, who didn't decorate the past two Christmases because he was in rehabilitation for knee replacement, said the hardest part is climbing up and down on the ladder.

"The only time I really feel my knees is when I have to go down to the floor to pin the garland in," he said. "I'm on my hands and knees and they get a little tender. Even the cat comes and looks, but he doesn't bother or try to help."

Every year Bell tries to improve on what he has done in previous years, making the experience different in some way without going overboard, he said.

"The one tree over in the corner of the dining room had 300 ornaments on it, but I took 100 off because I thought it looked like too much," he said. "I didn't spend as much time this year as I have in years past on making sure everything is perfect, but it still looks good."

Bell does not charge to see his display, but asks that you call 300-0932 for directions and to schedule a visit. See Notes
