Tehachapi Community Theatre's young adult division, TCT Too, hits the boards running July 18 with a dashing production of "Treasure Island," Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale of pirates and buried treasure, sword fights, gun battles and outrageous fun.

Everyone who attends will receive a bit of treasure from Long John Silver's chest as a souvenir of the show, which plays Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., on July 18, 19, 25 and 26. Sunday matinees will be held at 2 p.m., on July 20 and 27, all at the BeeKay Theatre. The play is suitable for children ages 5 and up, with all seats priced at $10.

In addition to sharing in the treasure, audiences will also find surprises in the cast of 21 Tehachapi young adults.

Brother and sister Tristan and Fallon Bock face off as Long John Silver and Captain Smollett in a tense battle on the island. Also featured in the cast is Martin Lasaosa, an exchange student from the Lagrono, Spain, a northern wine-growing region known as La Rioja.

After meeting Lasaosa, the cast of the show invited him to join them on stage as part of the ensemble. He has been rehearsing energetically as a pirate, while intensively improving his English and making many American friends. He is being hosted by Daniella Hernandez and her son Ricky Peregrina. Peregrina appears as old, blind Pew, and accompanies himself on guitar during a featured song aboard the good ship Hispaniola.

The production is directed by Karl Schuck, with strong assistance from fight choreographer and voice coach Jonathan Hall. Costumers are Terri Bock, Mary Reba, Silent Wolf and Emily Marin, and scenic artists are Rick Gould and Susan Hill, all supported by producer David Shaklock, assistant director Hernandez and stage manager Elmer Acevedo.

In addition to the Bock household and Lasaosa, cast members include Samantha Cook as Squire Trawlany; Rihana Modina as Dr. Livesey; Kaylee Winn as Jim Hawkins; Destiny Bustos as Ben Gunn; Joe Budoni as pirate Israel Hand and Benjamin Bartel as Captain Bill. Nicholas Woodworth plays author Robert Louis Stevenson alongside Robin Doser as stepson Lloyd.

Additional players flashing from sailors to pirates to publicans are Reagan Gaines, Kay-Lee Howell, Kristen Roghair, Annette Hertz, Kennedy Carr, Megan Fisher, Emily Marin, Alexie Adams and Jamie Moser.
