The latest news - The Kern County Sheriff's Office issued a news release announcing the death of an inmate at the California Correctional Institution. Daniel Harger, 49, was found dead yesterday, and an autopsy is scheduled for later in the week to the cause and manner of his death. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

Tehachapi Police Department:

Dec. 16, 2013

3:59 p.m. Vandalism against person or property of another. Occurred on Sunrise Way. Renters came home and put out fire, called landlord. Reporting person is landlord. Disposition: Report taken.

Dec. 17, 2013

7:34 a.m. Burglary report. Occurred at World Wide Services LLC on Tehachapi Willow Springs Road. The building was broken into last night and equipment was stolen. Business is located at the corner of Tehachapi Boulevard and Tehachapi Willow Springs Road. Disposition: Assignment completed.

Bear Valley Springs Police Department:

Dec. 16, 2013

12:07 p.m. Theft of mail. Occurred at Bear Valley Police Department on Bear Valley Road. Theft from mailbox, possibly stolen reporting party’s license plate. Disposition: Information only.

3:02 p.m. Theft of mail. Occurred on Greenwater Drive. Theft from mailbox. Disposition: Report taken.

Kern County Sheriff Tehachapi Substation:

Between Dec. 16 and the morning of Dec. 17, the Kern County Sheriff's Department responded to 25 incidents, including a theft investigation and a petty theft investigation in Golden Hills, and a burglary investigation at the Summit Inudstrial Park on Goodrick Drive.

Stallion Springs Police Department: Nothing reported.

California Highway Patrol: Nothing reported.

WEATHER FORECAST

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 68. Breezy, with an east southeast wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Southeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 63. South southeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday night: A 10 percent chance of showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. West wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Although Wednesday looks to be a repeat of Tuesday, showers and even some snow are forecasted for Thursday, before skies clear off again on Friday.

• The Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District will host its monthly board meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Golden Hills Community Services District, 21415 Reeves St.

• The Tehachapi-Cummings County Water District’s next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. at 22901 Banducci Road.

• Golden Hills Community Services District is hosting its next board meeting on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at 21415 Reeves St.
