The latest news - Work resumed on the Sand Canyon Bridge this morning after a two-week delay due to issues with the concrete being used in the bridge's piles. Read more about it HERE. Yesterday's RED FLAG warning will remain in effect until Saturday evening, and in addition, hte National Weather Service has issued a BLOWING DUST ADVISORY for Mountain and Valley areas through 11 p.m. Friday.

Tehachapi Police Department:

Oct. 2, 2013

8:44 a.m. Extra Patrol  Officer initiated activity at Cummings Valley Elementary. Disposition: Checks OK.

09:13 a.m. Petty theft less than $400.00. Officer initiated activity on South Dennison Road. Stolen cell phone. Disposition: Report taken.

11:19 a.m. Pedestrian  check. Officer initiated activity on East Tehachapi Blvd. Disposition: Arrest made.

11:39 a.m. Keep the peace occurred on Carroll Way. Subject possibly had a knife on him, with possible access to additional weapons. Subject was white male, 5'10, stocky, shaved head, green eyes with a history of possible physical abuse. Disposition: Checks OK.

2:16 p.m. Extra patrol. Officer initiated activity at Tehachapi High School. Disposition: Checks OK.

2:52 p.m. Extra Patrol. Officer initiated activity at Tompkins Elementary. Disposition: Checks OK.

7:28 p.m. Suspicious Circumstances occurred on North Mill Street. Reporting party advised male subject was wanted by police. Disposition: Arrest made.

7:47 p.m. Auto accident occurred at Valley Boulevard  and South Mill Street. Vehicle vs bike, bicyclist crossed diagonally over Valley Blvd into the path of a vehicle making a right turn from Mill Street. Bicyclist suffered minor injuries, but was not transported to hospital. Disposition: Report taken.

Bear Valley Springs Police Department:

Oct. 1, 2013

7:58 p.m. Animal call occurred at Bear Valley Road and Jacaranda Drive. Injured deer in the road. Disposition: Unable to locate.

Kern County Sheriff Tehachapi Substation: Nothing reported.

Stallion Springs Police Department: Nothing reported.

California Highway Patrol: Nothing reported.

WEATHER FORECAST

The National Weather Service in Hanford provides the following forecast for the Tehachapi area:

This afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 63. Breezy, with a west northwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 40. Breezy, with a west northwest wind 15 to 20 mph becoming east northeast 5 to 10 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Friday: Areas of blowing dust. Sunny, with a high near 63. Windy, with an east northeast wind 25 to 35 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph.

Friday Night: Areas of blowing dust before 11pm. Clear, with a low around 42. Windy, with an east northeast wind 25 to 30 mph decreasing to 20 to 25 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

Continued clear, with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s the next few days and lows in the mid 40s, and gusty winds.

• The Tehachapi Valley Parks and Recreation will hold a special meeting to adopt the Master Plan at 5:30 p.m.  on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the district office, 490 W. "D" St.

• The Tehachapi City Council will meet Monday, Oct. 7, at 6 p.m. in the Beekay Theatre, 110 S. Green St.

• The next Airport Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Pilot's Lounge, 314 N. Hayes St.

MOUNTAIN SPORTS THIS WEEK

Football – Varsity/JV vs. West (Homecoming) at home this Friday, Oct. 4. Freshmen vs. West at home this Thursday, Oct. 3. Varsity starts at 7:30 p.m. and JV/freshmen at 5 p.m.

Volleyball – No matches scheduled this week.
