According to the California Highway Patrol, Tehachapi area, CHP units were dispatched to a big-rig that went over the overpass on westbound Highway 58 near Love's Truck Stop around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The driver, who remains unidentified, was operating the commercial truck filled with non-perishable commodities in the #1 lane. For unknown reasons, the driver allowed his vehicle to drift to the right onto the shoulder, causing it to go over the side of the overpass, where it came to rest on the railroad tracks next to Tehachapi Boulevard, blocking all railroad traffic in both lanes.

Upon arriving on scene, Hall Ambulance paramedics and Kern County Fire Department first responders were unable to free the driver from the tangled cab of the big-rig before the driver was pronounced dead.

The railway was halted through Tehachapi until the crumpled truck and its contents could be removed from the tracks.

The cause of the crash has not been released.
