The Kern Law Enforcement Association will hold "Deputies, Dessert & Discussion," a chance for the public to meet with off-duty Kern County deputies and share public safety concerns. The meeting will held from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at Kelley's Café, 20424 Brian Way, #A.

According to Amanda Anaya, senior project coordinator, the deputies will hear the concerns and suggestions of citizens and provide the law enforcement union's message on issues facing Kern County.

Their number one concern, according to Anaya, is the lack of deputies who are on the street, with many working in dangerous and remote areas alone with backup many miles away.

"It is up to all of us, as a community, to come together to support our men and women in uniform," KLEA President David Kessler wrote in a news release. "Community involvement is extremely important when it comes to the success of local law enforcement."
