Rachel Sheppard

Rachel Sheppard was shot at the Highway 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas and later hospitalized. Fundraisers and vigils were held for her and other victims.

Tehachapi resident Rachel Sheppard, 27, who was injured in the mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nev., while attending the Route 91 Harvest Festival, is improving, her father said Thursday afternoon.

"She is doing much better, and is able to sit up on her own," Mark Sheppard said.

Rachel Sheppard was hospitalized after she was shot twice by the gunman, who later ended his own life following the shooting.

The doctors are considering upgrading her condition because she is improving, said Mark Sheppard.

"She is anxious and wants to go home," he said.

Rachel's father expressed his gratitude to everyone in Tehachapi and in Las Vegas for their prayers and the support the family has received since the shooting.
