While for many people the holiday season brings excitement and anticipation from Halloween through New Year's, there are others who greet the holidays with dread, wishing they would come and go without notice.
For those who are struggling with grief and sadness due to the passing of a loved one, whether it is recent or hanging on your heart for years, Country Oaks Baptist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 11 will host a free seminar entitled "Grief Share: Surviving the Holidays," to help those trying to cope.
The seminar produced by GriefShare, an international network of grief recovery support groups, will reveal practical suggestions and reassurance through video interviews with counselors and grief experts and other people who have experienced the holidays after a loved one's death.
Topics to be covered include: "Why the Holidays Are Tough," "What to Expect," "How to Prepare," "How to Manage Relationships and Holiday Socials" and "Using the Holidays to Help You Heal."
Also on hand will be locally trained facilitators.
The seminar will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is designed for adults but childcare is available with prior arrangements. Attendees will also receive a free book with over 30 daily readings providing insight on holiday survival.
The event will be held in the church's conference room at 20915 Schout Road, but local Griefshare facilitators want to extend an open invitation to all denominations.
