The Memorial Day parade scheduled for Monday, May 26, was officially cancelled by the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District. During a meeting held the morning of May 12, it was determined by TVRPD officials to cancel the annual event due to lack of interest.
Word of the cancellation reached the Tehachapi News after the deadline for this week's print edition.
"We only had three sign-ups for the parade," said Aimee Hansen, receptionist and recreation coordinator for TVRPD.
According to Hansen, the Memorial Day Ceremony will still take place, commencing at 11 a.m. in Philip Marx Central Park. Following the ceremony will be service organization information booths, and free hotdogs and drinks will be served to the public.
Anyone interested in participating in an information booth is encouraged to contact the TVRPD District Office at 822-3228.
