Spring Clean Up Day to be held Saturday

Greater Tehachapi residents are invited to participate in the annual Spring Clean-Up Day to be held Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Local residents can clean-up around their homes and bring large, bulky items to local drop-off locations for free, easy disposal and recycling.

Acceptable bulky items include: Refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, furniture, carpeting outdoor furniture, chairs, tables, desks, shelving and electronic waste (such as computer monitors, towers, TVs, vacuums, or anything with a cord). Car batteries will also be accepted.

Items that will NOT be accepted include: Hazardous waste, construction materials, asphalt, concrete, tires, alkaline batteries, fluorescent tubes and light bulbs.

Participating agencies and their activities include:

* Bear Valley CSD, BVCSD Transfer Station. Call 821-4428. Paper shredding and bulky waste drop-off on day of the event.

* Golden Hills CSD, 21415 Reeves St. Call 822-3064. Paper shredding and bulky waste drop-off on day of the event. Senior citizens and disabled adults can arrange to have bulky items to be picked up on Thursday, May 1, by calling and scheduling a time for pickup.

* Stallion Springs CSD, 27800 Stallion Springs Drive. Call 822-3268. Volunteer litter pick-up, paper shredding and bulky waste drop-off on day of the event. Senior citizens and disabled adults can arrange to have bulky items to be picked up on Friday, May 2, by calling and scheduling a time for pickup.

* City of Tehachapi, 100 Commercial Way. Call 822-2200. Volunteer litter pick-up, paper shredding and bulky waste drop-off on day of the event. Senior citizens and disabled adults can arrange to have bulky items to be picked up on Thursday, May 1, and Saturday, May 5, by calling and scheduling a time for pickup.

The Stallion Springs Property Owner's Association will also host its annual Round Up and Flea Market the following weekend on Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Community Center. Set up will commence at 7 a.m.

Residents are encouraged to clean out their garages and participate by selling their items, or buying someone else's items.

Vendor and new items will be in the gym, as well as craft items.

The Stallion Springs 4H Club will also be on hand with animals and displays, as well as items for sale. The Boy Scouts will also be selling hot dogs and baked goods.

Parking lot spaces considered one space lots, and the inside crafters and vendors spaces measure 10 foot by 10 foot.
