'Wall to Wall' bicyclists en route to Tehachapi

Photographer Nick Smirnoff reports that the "Wall to Wall" riders have left the Bakersfield National Cemetery and are on Highway 58 headed east, en route to Tehachapi.

It has been slow-going, Smirnoff reports, and the toughest part of today's journey lies ahead.

Meanwhile, in downtown Tehachapi, flags are flying and the town is preparing for a welcoming ceremony.

Three spaghetti feeds are offered as well as barbecue as Tehachapi welcomes the riders and helps raise funds for the Jeremy Staat Foundation.

Mayor Ed Grimes said he hopes everyone in town will be downtown to welcome the riders.

Although originally expected to arrive between 2 and 3 p.m., Smirnoff said he thinks they are a bit behind schedule and arrival will be at 3 p.m. or after.

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
