Mojave shooting leads to high speed chase ending in Bakersfield

The victim of a shooting at a Mojave motel was airlifted to an unidentified hospital and reported to be in stable condition and two suspects are in custody following a high speed chase that ended in Bakersfield, according to a press release from the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

The KCSO reported that just after 3 p.m. on Jan. 8, deputies received a radio call of a possible shooting that had just occurred at the Motel 6 in Mojave.

It was reported that numerous gun shots were heard coming from the motel. While deputies were enroute to the scene, additional callers advised that two vehicles were seen fleeing the motel. One vehicle was described as a black full size pick-up truck and the second vehicle was described as a black color Ford Mustang.

Deputies arrived on scene and were directed to the black pick-up truck which was parked in the Stater Brother’s grocery store parking lot across the street from the Motel 6. Deputies at that location found an adult male suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The subject’s vehicle had several bullet holes in both the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.

Information obtained at the scene led to the description of the suspect’s vehicle which fled the area. A deputy traveling westbound on Highway 58 in the North Edwards area spotted the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on the highway. The deputy made a U-turn and attempted to catch-up to the suspect vehicle.

The suspect vehicle exited the highway and re-entered the highway traveling westbound. The deputy attempted to over-take the suspect vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued that traveled approximately 80 miles along Highway 58 into the Bakersfield area.

The suspect vehicle exited Highway 58 at Oswell Street and the pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle stopped in the area of Potomac Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Deputies arrested two people in the vehicle, one male adult, 22, and a 16-year-old male. Both suspects were charged and booked for PC 664/187, PC 245, PC 246, PC 182, PC 148, and VC 2800.2.

The adult suspect, whose name was not provided in the news release, was booked into the Central Receiving Facility and the Juvenile was booked at Juvenile Hall. The victim of the shooting was not identified.
