On Saturday, July 13 at 11:23 p.m., a 1990 Toyota Camry driven by Orlando Rocha of Tehachapi was traveling westbound on State Route 202 east of Golden Hills Blvd. As Rocha continued west he steered his vehicle into the eastbound lane and began to travel upon the wrong side of the roadway. His vehicle then collided head-on with a 2012 Ford Focus traveling eastbound driven by Clarissa Ramirez, also of Tehachapi. Rocha sustained serious injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Center. Ramirez was also injured in this collision. The investigating officer suspects the use of alcohol by Rocha was the cause of this collision. Rocha was subsequently placed under arrest for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing bodily injury.
The California Highway Patrol reminds all motorists that drinking alcoholic beverages and driving is not only illegal, but extremely dangerous. If a driver injures or kills someone as a result of drunk driving, it is a felony in the state of California. If a drunk driver kills someone it may result in a charge of second degree murder. Please remember to not drink and drive, and always designate a SOBER driver.
