Linda Vernon resigns from Tehachapi council

Former mayor and long-time council member Linda Vernon resigned from the Tehachapi City Council at its Feb. 6 meeting.

Vernon married Bruce Jay, a resident of Bakersfield on Jan. 28. Jay is CEO of Valley Republic Bank and Vernon is CEO of the Bakersfield Association of Realtors. They will make their home in Bakersfield.

“For more than 12 years I’ve had the amazing honor and privilege of serving our community,” Vernon said. “First on the planning commission and for the past over 10 years on the city council. This has been an experience that has enriched and blessed my life in ways too numerous to list.”

Her tenure on the council included a period of considerable infrastructure improvement, particularly in the downtown area. She last ran for re-election in November 2010, winning easily with 1292 votes, the most of any of the five candidates for three open seats.

“I want to express my sincere appreciation to the residents of the City of Tehachapi who have given me such a great honor of serving the community and I would also like to extend my appreciation to my follow council members and the city staff for all their years of support and encouragement,” Vernon said.

Her resignation was effective Feb. 7. The council has not indicated how it will fill the vacancy.

Wind Energy

  1. Planning down on the ranch

The news that the Pahnamid Wind Energy project has been withdrawn from the County Planning Office is good news to most of us up here on the mountain. After spending several million dollars between the City of Tehachapi’s General Plan, the County’s Specific Plan, and the Kern Council of Government’s “Blueprint,” it would be foolish to start making zoning changes at the first opportunity.
