Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue is being relocated from Sand Canyon near Tehachapi to San Angelo, Texas, according to Mark Meyers, Executive Director of the rescue organization.

"In 2011 we performed over 700 rescues in Texas along with 87 in other states," Myers said. "In California we did only seven. The costs over productivity of this facility just didn't justify it's existence. We will still be providing rescue services in California as well as providing adoptable donkeys. We are going to be relying more on our satellite adoption centers."

The rescue center has a 172 acre facility and 300 plus leased acres where the donkeys are put out for grazing just outside of San Angelo. The costs are also lower in Texas. Meyers said "The costs are so much more in California; everything is just so much more expensive and we are doing most of our work in Texas, Oklahoma and points east now." Meyers indicated that he was meeting with a Realtor and the land in Sand Canyon will be put up for sale.
