Three of Tehachapi's firefighters have been tapped for recognition in light of the service they conducted during a 2013 fire.

On June 27, Tehachapi Engine Company 12 Capt. Jason Nava, Engineer Leland Davis and Firefighter Paul Abarquez will receive a unit citation for their actions during a June 30, 2013 house fire that ended in the safe rescue of a woman in Golden Hills.

In addition to the unit's recognition, Abarquez has been singled out for a lifesaving medal for rescuing that woman through the wall of the burning structure.

During the incident, Abarquez, then a rookie, ripped a hole in the side of the house in order to rescue a 43-year-old woman, who had suffered from burns while trapped in the burning house. Abarquez, who was assigned to the Lamont fire station, was working overtime in Tehachapi when Engine 12 responded to the fire.

The ceremony honoring the three firefighters, along with other firefighters and dispatchers will be held at the Kern County Administrative Center in Bakersfield at 6 p.m.
