Tehachapi News staffer Kathleen Kline took this photo of a rainbow in the Tehachapi Valley on Friday morning, Feb. 28. This rainbow didn't signify the end of a story, however, as rain is expected to continue through Saturday.

Much needed rain is falling in the Tehachapi area as part of a large winter storm system that has moved inland after hitting the California coast with a vengeance earlier.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Warning is in effect in the Tehachapi Mountains through 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28. Additionally, the NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook nothing that thunderstorms are expected today and Saturday.

Thunderstorms that develop are capable of producing gusty and erratic winds, locally heavy rain and frequent dangerous lightning and hail.

Rain is likely to continue through Saturday with cloudiness persisting through early next week.
