School libraries enter the technology age

Beginning their 23rd year, the Libra-Library Associates are still raising money to supply our Tehachapi school libraries with the modern technology students depend upon.

In addition, the $100,000 that has been raised thus far has enabled the purchase of furniture, a security system and replacement of computers.

Each school has benefited by the generosity of Tehachapi supporters.

This fall, until Dec. 9, we are selling raffle tickets for several prizes, the first being a year's pass for two to the Hitching Post Theatre. Other prizes include a basket of Frank Sinatra memorabilia and tickets for two to various restaurants in town.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Fall Festival on Oct. 26, at the Monroe High School gym, 126 S. Synder Ave., and thereafter at Albertson's on Nov. 9 and 16, and from Libra members.

Recently, the junior high library was given a few Nook e-readers to test the viability of loaning e-books for use at home.

Parents have accepted responsibility to see that the Nook e-readers are returned in good condition.

It is our goal to purchase additional e-books where requested.

We are grateful for the community's support of this project.
