The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Kern County mountains, including Tehachapi.
According to the warning, a cold winter storm system will affect Southern California from Monday, Dec. 12 through Tuesday morning, Dec. 13. Heavy snowfall will be likely over the Kern County mountains including the Highway 58 and Interstate 5 corridors.
At the Tehachapi Pass and on the Grapevine, cold temperatures and periods of heavy snowfall will create hazardous travel conditions through early Tuesday.
The warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, above 3,500 feet.
Snow accumulations of four to eight inches are expected above 5,000 feet with one to four inches along Highway 58 and Interstate 5. Snow levels are expected to be around 5,000 feet on Monday but may lower to 3,000 feet by late Monday night.
The heaviest snow is expected to occur Monday afternoon and evening.
High winds are not expected with this storm, although occasional gusts to 45 mph are possible.
