Flu prompts hospital visitation changes

The flu season is in full swing, and the Tehachapi Hospital is imposing stringent restrictions on visitors.

Based on recommendations from the Public Health Department and the Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District Infection Control Nurse, the hospital has implemented a temporary visitation policy.

Posted at TVHD entrances and waiting rooms the policy is effective immediately, and is being implemented in effort to better protect patients and visitors during the current flu season.

Health officials want to keep the flu out of hospitals; therefore the following procedures are in effect.

No visitors under the age of 18 will be permitted or be left unattended in the waiting room in Tehachapi Valley Healthcare District patient care areas. Children under the age of 18 will be only be seen in the emergency room for illness and/or injury.

The hospital is also asking that if you or someone is you know is experiencing flu like symptoms to please request a facemask to limit exposure to others.

These temporary restrictions will be in effect from the remainder of the flu season, which according to the health department is expected to last about another six weeks.
