A pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train in Boron just before 5 p.m. yesterday.
According to a news release from the Kern County Sheriff's Office, deputies from the Boron Substation responded to the accident and found an adult male had been hit by an east bound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train.
It was reported that the pedestrian was attempting to cross the tracks at the time of the incident. He suffered major injuries and was declared deceased by medical personnel on scene.
The man has been identified as Joe Perez, 63, of Boron.
It was noted by the KCSO that there was no road crossing the tracks at the site of the accident.
