Hundreds of vehicles said to be stuck in snow on closed Highway 58

Hundreds of vehicles are reportedly stuck in the snow on Highway 58 with snow falling as far down as 2000 feet. The highway has been closed and the CHP is calling for snow plows to help dig stranded travelers out.

Just before 9 p.m. Highway 58 through the Tehachapi Pass was closed. Earlier in the evening  the California Highway Patrol announced closure of Tehachapi Willow Springs Road between Highline Road and Cameron Road due to snow.

Highway 58 is closed from the Junction of Highway 184 to Mojave.

With a high wind advisory in effect through 10 a.m. Wednesday and icy, slick roads and low visibility, officials are bracing for a tough night.

Just before 8:30 p.m., the CHP was dealing with a jackknifed big rig on Highway 58 near the Mill Street exit and multiple trucks blocking the roadway and was running "round-robins" through the summit area of the Tehachapi Pass to slow down traffic.

As of this posting Interstate 5 over the Grapevine remained open, but a wind advisory was in effect and conditions could change at any time.
