Instead of returning to school following a six-day weekend that included two Presidents Day holidays and two furlough days, students in the Tehachapi Unified School District will remain home today as snow has closed local schools.
The cold winter storm that began dropping snow in the Tehachapi Valley at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday had closed Highway 58 by 9 p.m. The highway remains closed this morning although Highway 202 and Interstate 5 over the Grapevine remain open at this time.
Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road is also closed between Highline Road and Cameron Road.
There is no word at the time of this posting as to when Highway 58 will reopen.
Check back later for updates as they become available.
