At about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, the California Highway Patrol began escorting traffic along both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 58 from 6 miles east of the junction with Highway 184 east of Bakersfield to one mile west of Mojave.

A snowstorm in the area on Saturday, Dec. 7, dropped about four inches of snow in the Tehachapi Valley and more at higher elevations. The highway has been closed intermittently since mid-morning Saturday.

It is still quite cold, although there is blue sky, and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution and be prepared for delays.
