Roads are still icy following Saturday's snowstorm and Tehachapi's public schools will be closed on Monday, Dec. 9.
That's the word parents received in notifications sent at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Continued below-freezing temperatures have kept the snow from melting as quickly as usual and Highway 58 was closed intermittently since mid-morning Saturday, although it was apparently open at the time of this posting.
At about 6:30 p.m. Sunday the closure of a number of area roadways was noted by the California Highway Patrol including Woodford-Tehachapi from Pinyon to Keene, Cameron Canyon Road and Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road.
For Monday, the National Weather Service in Hanford predicts Tehachapi will be sunny and breezy, with a high near 33 and an east wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Daytime temperatures will gradually increase as the week continues, although nighttime lows will remain below freezing.
Students at Tompkins School will be out of class for the third school day in a row since school was closed last Thursday due to no heat in the classrooms while a gas line was repaired.
