Residents of the Tehachapi Valley and surrounding area woke up to a light snow falling with about a half inch of snow on the ground this morning.

At this posting highways are open except for Tehachapi-Willow Springs Road which the California Highway Patrol closed just after 32:30 a.m.

Tehachapi schools initially were on a two-hour delay but school has now been cancelled for the day.

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and a Winter Weather Advisory for the Kern County Mountains and snow is expected today and tonight with the snow level expected to drop as low as 2500 feet.

Snow showers this morning will gradually increase, according to the NSW, but are expected to diminish after midnight Friday.

One to three inches of snow may accumulate in the Tehachapi Pass and three to five inches at higher elevations. West winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph are in the forecast.

Motorists are warned of travel difficulties and told to expect slippery roads and limited visibility.
