Meeting to discuss future of Walmart project is Monday

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to discuss the proposed Walmart project and its revised Environmental Impact Report Monday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Monroe High School gym, 126 S. Snyder St.

Because the city was ordered by a judge to revisit three aspects of the original EIR — noise, traffic and water usage — only those portions are up for discussion at the hearing. However, the Walmart project itself must also be reapproved by the Planning Commission, as well.

Since then, the board has brought on two new commissioners: Daryl Christensen and Mariana Teel. Commissioner Marisa Folse was the only member of the January 2011 board to vote against Walmart, and remains a sitting commissioner.
