The organizer of a recall effort in the Golden Hills Community Services District said Monday morning she is continuing to gather signatures hoping to recall two of the five directors after failing to reach a deadline last week to submit signatures for three others.
Virginia Staabs of Golden Hills launched the recall effort last year after the board moved forward with a bid process for trash collection.
Staabs said that the signature-gathering effort on petitions for recall for Directors Larry Barrett, Kathy Cassil and Laura Lynne Wyatt, were about 200 short of meeting the 25 percent of registered voters required to put the matter on the ballot.
However, for procedural reasons, the deadline to gather signatures to recall two other directors Eldwin E. (Ed) Kennedy and Ernest (Bud) Sargent, has not yet passed and Staabs said she is continuing her effort.
Whether that deadline is this Friday or the following Monday could not be confirmed with the Kern County Elections Division prior to deadline.
The recall petitions charge that the board members "are not acting in a manner to serve the best interest of their constituents." Staabs and others have noted that the district previously held a vote and told the CSD it did not want it to take on trash collection.
However, directors all stated they believed they were acting in the district's best interest.
