Sheriff’s collect cell phones for emergency use

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is helping those who can’t afford a cell phone to get one and is asking the public for its assistance.

Citizens interested in donating used, unwanted cell phones for this year’s Secure the Call 911 cell phone drive are asked to drop off their used, unwanted cell phones at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters Facility, 1350 Norris Rd. in Bakersfield in the lobby of Building A.

The phones will then be sent to Secure the Call that cleans them, electronically removes all information in the phone, resets them for 911 use only, and then distributes them through partnerships throughout the country.
