Fire fighters, police officers and emergency medical service workers will battle it out for blood during the third annual Boots & Badges Blood Drive.
The contest is being held during National Burn Awareness Week and began on Monday in Arvin. It is scheduled at locations all over Kern County including Tehachapi on Friday.
Donors can stop by Fire Station No. 12 at 800 S Curry St. from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. to give blood and cast their vote for this year's winning team that will honored with a plaque. Fire and EMS have won the competition for the past two years.
Donors will also be entered to win a $500 Apple Store gift card from San Joaquin Community Hospital.
The drive will conclude with a Safety and Burn Awareness Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the blood bank parking lot at 5901 Truxtun Ave. in Bakersfield.
