Highway 58 through the Tehachapi Pass was closed again at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, due to icy conditions.
No time for reopening the highway has been established although it is likely it will not be until sometime after daylight when safety can be assessed and the temperature rises. The temperature in the Tehachapi Valley at this posting was 21 degrees F.
The highway had been closed mid-morning Saturday then reopened in the afternoon after a fast-moving storm dumped about four inches of snow in the Tehachapi Valley and more in the higher elevations.
Following reopening of the road Saturday the wind picked up and there were numerous accidents.
The National Weather Service in Hanford predicts sunny weather in Tehachapi today but the cold will remain with a high of 31 in the forecast and a low of 17.
Due to the closure of the highway Sunday morning, delivery of The Bakersfield Californian has been disrupted as the papers could not be brought up from Bakersfield.
Interstate 5 over the Grapevine between Bakersfield and Los Angeles remained open at this posting although a high wind advisory is in place.
