Tehachapi Police have arrested 29-year-old Brian Yearwood for an alleged rape that occurred Saturday, Dec. 7, in the 200 block of East “I” Street.
Police Chief Jeff Kermode said the victim is a 29-year-old female, with whom the suspect had an “on-again, off-again” dating relationship, and that the two have a history of violence.
The victim has a restraining order filed against Yearwood.
Kermode said the crime allegedly occurred at the residence of a mutual friend of the two.
The victim reported the alleged rape around 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the Tehachapi Police Department.
“She claims that the physical contact was against her wishes, and he is claiming that it was consensual,” Kermode said.
When police arrived at the scene of the crime, Yearwood fled through the backdoor of the house towards an alley. Once police caught up and threatened to taser him, the suspect stopped resisting.
Yearwood was booked at the Kern County Sheriff’s Central Receiving Facility.
The suspect has been charged with one felony count of rape by force or fear, and one misdemeanor count of disobeying a court order or process.
He is also being held for one misdemeanor count of battery and one felony count of violating probation.
Yearwood’s next hearing will be Dec. 10 at 9 a.m., at the Kern County Superior Court in Mojave. His bail amounts to $90,000.
